About Me

I started riding mountain bikes in 2004 over a summer spent in Colorado. Two years later I raced my first event and full season- I fell in love with bike racing then. Since then I've had to battle my way through many obstacles to get where I am today- you'd think six years would be long enough to be racing at a higher level. However, recovering through two season ending broken legs (2007 and 2009), two shoulder dislocations, several sprains, full time four years of college, and now working more than full time through four move to four different states, two dogs, and owning (and now renting out) a home really puts a damper on the amount of time that can be spent focusing on training. The last big injury was in 2009 (the story is published in this blog and a Boulder, CO newspaper somewhere I guess) and seven months after that leg breaker I finally climbed back on a bike...and I finally have been able to keep training year round to be an athlete in this sport. The recent popularity surge in winter racing and riding gear has helped greatly- as well as joining LifeTime Fitness. Travis (TJ) Woodruff has been able to coach me through the "on" season and the injuries but mentally it had been tough to stay "on" November through March. The last few years I've been going pretty much year 'round...and it's showing. In 2012 I'm racing a singlespeed the entire year to get a new perspective of riding. Combining this with last years newfound passion for ultra-endurance racing it should be a lot of fun. I'm building a lot of power doing this and learning techniques that will definitely make me a better rider on gears as well. Maybe I'll go back to gears in 2013...but for now it's one gear on the Niner One9 and 20 on the Masi CXR. That's my stable...for now.
